Roger W. Calton is of counsel to the law firm of Carlson & Jayakumar, where he practices all aspects of healthcare law and related litigation. Mr. Calton brings to Carlson & Jayakumar 40 years of experience in healthcare law. He represents small, medium, and large medical groups as well as individual healthcare providers and professional corporations. He has substantial experience in matters such as: practice structures, including establishment, acquisitions and sales; physician-employment contracts; medical group mergers; office leases and negotiations; third-party reimbursement issues, investigations, and audits; insurance-recoupment claims; managed-care contracts; Medicare fraud and abuse; state law compliance; board investigations, complaints, and license disciplinary cases; Workers Compensation/QME qualification and certification; procurement of professional licenses; and other related areas.
Mr. Calton represents a wide variety of healthcare providers including medical doctors, osteopaths, podiatrists, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, nurses, and other licensed providers. He has successfully litigated cases in over 10 states, and has argued cases in the Appellate Courts of several states. He was the senior partner in Calton & Burns, LLP, in Laguna Niguel, California for over ten years, and joined Carlson & Jayakumar in 2014.
Mr. Calton is a member of the California Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, where he is a member of the ABA Forum Committee on Health Care Law. He has served as a regular guest lecturer for H.J. Ross and Associates and has presented on behalf of the California Chiropractic Association, the International Chiropractors Association of California, and the Academy of Forensic and Industrial Chiropractic Consultants.
Mr. Calton received his J.D. from the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law in 1974 and his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1972. Mr. Calton moved to California in 1985 and has been active in the community ever since. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the South Peak Community Homeowners Association and previously served as the President of the Monarch Bay Terrace Property Owners Association.
