IMPORTANT UPDATE: Minimum Wage Increase for Healthcare Workers Moved from June 1 to July 1
As you may recall from a prior newsletter, SB 525 was signed into law last October, and it was set to incrementally—but significantly–increase the minimum wage for healthcare workers to $25 per hour, starting on June 1, 2024. But due to a significant budget shortfall this year, Governor Newsom stated he wanted to delay implementing the new law. On May 31, Governor Newsom signed SB 828, which delays the initial effective date from June 1 to July 1, 2024, and subsequent increases will now occur on July 1 instead of June 1. SB 828 went into effect immediately, so the minimum wage increase has not yet taken effect. We anticipate further legislation will be coming in the next few weeks on this issue, so stay tuned for updates!
